Lux Gaudii

Lux Gaudii
was an amazing project. I wanted to build a Bubble Scope that would always have a spectacular image, without the viewer having to do anything. This is the result. There is a mechanism housed in the base which is triggered by a sensor in the mirror tube. When the Bubble pops or becomes too faded, the lever is dipped into the detergent, and raised up again.
It is automatically started when both of the doors are fully opened, and will 'Park ' itself if either door is partially closed.
Here is a short
Movie
of a Bubble Scope's images. Bear in mind it's very compressed ....
Awanui

This commissioned Scope is called Awanui because it's the name of the town where we source our Kauri timber from. It is a 3 mirror Scope, with hand turned brass and wooden components. The cell is acrylic, and has a selection of Paua , Pink Mussell, and Pipi Shells, along with some quartz crystals and some pieces of the native jade, Pounamu.
